Now you can vote for your favorite musician, band, instructor, night club and more than 20 additional "best of" categories for your home state. This program will grow into a robust promotional tool for participants while serving as a search-engine-friendly utility to increase visitation to the MusicMates website.

11/01/05 - Music Mates celebrates 10 years in business this month!

"Every musician who ever thought of starting a musician referral said we'd never make it through our first year," says Marty Dickinson, founder and owner of Music Mates, LLC based in Aurora, CO.

"Then the dot-bomb era hit and they said surely we'd never make it to five years," he continues. Ten years has now come and gone and Music Mates is still expanding.

Mr. Dickinson placed his first classified ad in the Westword newspaper in October of 1995 looking for other musicians for casual jams. Within a matter of weeks, he had almost 100 people on his list and the realization for a formalized system in Colorado like Music Mates was born.

Thanks to some volunteers, Music Mates added Internet-based features in 1996 and the company was able to grow quickly. Enough income was received from participants that the company did not need to sell banner ads like traditional models were suggesting at the time.

In 2000, development of the Music Mates system was taken in-house and re-released as an automated utility that could be openly used for free by anyone in the U.S.

Music Mates plans for the future include a 2006 focused expansion of awareness in more than 20 states throughout the U.S.
